About Alaska Mountaineering and Climbing
Many of our clients come to Alaska to search out mountain peaks and ice walls to climb. There is an extensive array of mountaineering opportunities in Alaska. Ice climbing is year round and highly sought after during the winter months as well. There is an inherent danger in climbing big mountains and huge walls of ice/ glaciers. However as every climber knows the reward is greater than the risk. It is a passion to be a mountaineer and a climber. Our guides are highly skilled climbers and mountain guides. They are very familiar not only with climbing and mountaineering but with the local terrain, mountains, and glaciers here. Although we sometimes offer basic entry level courses to teach people how to climb, many of the guiding adventures we offer in mountaineering and climbing is strictly open only to skilled mountaineers and climbers who have qualified training and experience. Getting To The Top
Mountaineering enthusiasts absolutely love to live life on the edge, literally. Tackling precarious cliff lines and risking sliding down a steep glacier is all worth the risk for many climbers. What’s the reward you ask? Standing on the precipice of natures elevated view, the summits and ridgelines become an addictive adventure for most who get into this sport. It’s no wonder that many avid climbers seek to gain sponsorship to fund their climbing and mountaineering adventures, because it is mostly all they want to do. Its one reason why many of our guides have taken to guiding as a profession! It can be a costly recreation but feasible for the professional who is skilled in their sport. Alaska has some very high class mountains to climb. Some have never been climbed. They are waiting for you, and we would like to help you find them.

If your interested in getting a start on your mountaineering skills feel free to contact us about our introductory classes on climbing, mountaineering and outdoor education. Although Alaska is chalk full of big mountains, it doesn’t mean that the beginner or less extreme need to be excluded. Alaska Back Country Guiding can help outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels have a good experience in the outdoor climbing and mountaineering scene. Don’t feel shy if you don’t have experience climbing big mountains or are not technically inclined. We can help you start your journey and education, Alaska is a great place to start and learn. Who knows maybe one day you will be a guide. After some training and experience is under your belt, apply for our junior apprenticeship program to start your guiding career.
